Life on Coronado Island
On a peninsula between San Diego and the Pacific Ocean is Coronado Island. This island, typically referred to as The Island or Crown Island by local San Diegans, is home to a famous resort hotel, two naval bases and nearly 25,000 residents who call it home. It is a popular destination for far flung tourists and nearby locals as well. The presence of the Naval Air Station North Island and on the other side of the island, the Coronado Amphibious Base makes it a popular spot for active and former military persons. You might have recognized the Coronado Amphibious Base as being famous for training Navy SEALS.
There is more to the island than pleasant beaches and military bases. It is also home to the famous Hotel del Coronado. The Hotel de Coronado is one the few remaining Victorian wooden beach resorts that used to be found along our coasts. It was the largest of it's kind when it was constructed in 1888. With it's wonderful beaches, resorts and military presence one could expect there is plenty to do on Coronado and you would be right. It also has a thriving night life.

Being a center of attraction for tourists and locals, one may wonder if Coronado is beyond reach financially. However, the per capita income is stated at around $35,000 per year, with a median household income of $80,000. Coronado Island also has its own school district and offers both private and public schools. Coronado Island's economy relies heavily on tourism related industries, military and some technology companies. Whether you are visiting or looking to make a move to the San Diego area Coronado Island is worth going to see.
